Introducing Audience in the Workplace

Connecting with your audience is one of the most important parts of speaking in a general sense. An audience is not just a group of people that you go up and speak to in front of them person to person. There are many ways to be able to connect with your audience. Some of these ways can be using social media, through a phone call, texting, emailing, mailing a letter, and etc. As you can see there are many ways to convey to an audience and can be commonly misused.

I am currently at the end of my flight instructor training and will hopefully be a certified flight instructor within the week. Many of writings that I will be preforming as a flight instructor include, writing information and endorsements in my students logbooks, writing down maintenance issues that might arise in any of the aircraft we have during a flight, taking down the information of my students that I teach. I need to know what kind of knowledge my students or audience knows in a certain area of aviation in order to engage them effectively. The challenge with that is that different people have different knowledge levels of a certain subject and you have to be able to go down to their level and teach it from the ground up. What makes writing for audiences hard is that different people have different tastes, for example some people will love to write certain kinds of reports, while others might despise it.

  1. Sam,
I agree, connecting with your audience is one of the most important parts of writing. I feel like Social Media is a big communication platform in today’s day and age. It’s also one of the easiest ways to connect with an audience on a large scale. I also agree that it can misused, especially when it comes to reporting information. You see so much news media and sometimes it’s really hard to know whats true and what’s false. I also agree it is important for you to know your audience when writing for flight instruction. You can’t speak in flight terminology to a random person on the street like me because I’d have no idea what you’re saying! Also Good luck! I hope your certification goes well!
